Exciting New Adventures Await: Giant Robot Hellboy Returns in 2025
Aug-20-2024
Fans of Hellboy can look forward to an exciting few months ahead, as a new Mike Mignola-approved film is on the horizon. In addition to this film, Newsarama has the exclusive scoop on an upcoming two-part sequel to one of the most acclaimed Hellboy comics released in recent years.
The sequel, titled Giant Robot Hellboy Returns, serves as a continuation of last year's limited series, which transformed Big Red into a colossal mech. Once again, Mike Mignola will be at the helm of the writing, with Duncan Fegredo providing the artwork, along with colorist Dave Stewart and letterer Clem Robins. Fegredo will also create the primary covers for the series, while Ben Stenbeck, known for his work on Our Bones Dust, will contribute a variant cover for the first issue, followed by a variant from James Harren for the second.
Mignola reflected on the creative journey, explaining how what began as a lighthearted sketch evolved into a remarkable project. He emphasized the joy of witnessing Fegredo bring this concept to life with such vigor.
The official synopsis from Dark Horse for the first issue tantalizingly hints at an adventurous narrative. It appears that Hellboy finds himself on an underwater expedition, with the plot unfolding as follows: after being abducted and linked to a gigantic mech for an expedition on a distant and enigmatic island, Giant Robot Hellboy goes missing. Scientists search the ocean for him but encounter unexpected challenges, as an interdimensional portal poses a threat, either drawing them in or releasing terrifying creatures into their world.
Giant Robot Hellboy Returns #1 is set to be released by Dark Horse Comics sometime in 2025. In an exclusive interview, artist Duncan Fegredo shared insights regarding the first series of Giant Robot Hellboy.
