Exploring the Potential of Time Travel in Final Fantasy 16 DLC: Taking a Page from Dark Souls' Book

In the world of gaming, downloadable content (DLC) often represents an opportunity for developers to expand on the universe of their games and offer players exciting new narratives and gameplay experiences. A perfect example could potentially be drawn from the yet-to-be-released DLCs for the well-received Final Fantasy 16, a game that built a rich lore around its central character, Clive Rosfield, and the land of Valisthea, leaving plenty of room for exploration.

One suggestion that has been making the rounds involves borrowing a trick from Dark Souls, specifically its Artorias of the Abyss DLC. This expansion used time travel as a mechanism to give players a glimpse into the backstory of the game's world. An equivalent in Final Fantasy 16 could provide a deeper exploration of the game's mysteries and add exciting layers to the characters and locations.

For instance, the story of Final Fantasy 16 presents the existence of five mother crystals. However, it is revealed by Loresman Harpocrates that there were originally eight of them. Exploration of the disappearance of the other three, particularly Drake's Eye associated with the missing eikon Leviathan, could make for a compelling arc in a potential DLC.

Speaking of Leviathan, the eikon could be the central figure of another DLC. Referred to multiple times as "Leviathan the Lost," there hasn't been a dominant for this being for ages. The introduction of time travel could allow players to step into the shoes of a past dominant or partner with Clive Rosfield in a time-bending adventure to unravel this mystery.

While there's no official word from Square Enix on any upcoming DLCs for Final Fantasy 16 yet, it is clear there are numerous possibilities for expansion. Whether it is filling in the gaps in the story, exploring unexplored terrains, or delving into the past of beloved characters, the potential for time travel, as seen in Dark Souls provides a thought-provoking framework for future expansions that could enhance the gaming experience and deepen the connection of players with the world of Valisthea.
