Google Pixel Phones Set to Enhance Temperature Measurement with Automatic Material Detection Feature
Sep-30-2024
Recent developments indicate that Pixel smartphones could soon incorporate an enhanced temperature measurement feature. Specifically, the Google Pixel 9 Pro series and the Pixel 8 Pro are expected to benefit from an upgraded Thermometer app that simplifies the process of temperature recording. Reports suggest this advancement was uncovered during an APK inspection of the app.
This forthcoming feature aims to utilize the temperature sensor integrated into the Pixel 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 8 Pro. Instead of needing to manually select the material type prior to measurement, the app may automatically identify the material being assessed, enhancing user experience and accuracy during the temperature measurement process.
According to a report, a collaboration has revealed that the Thermometer app is undergoing testing for a material auto-detection function. Following an APK teardown of version 1.0.676362763 of the Pixel Thermometer app, it was found that users currently have to indicate the material, which includes options like food, beverages, cast iron, shiny and matte surfaces, fabric, and wood. However, the new feature could eliminate this manual selection step, enabling automatic detection of the material type using advanced AI algorithms.
Additionally, there may still be an option for users who prefer to choose the material manually from the selection menu. Though references to this functionality were identified, reports suggest that the feature has not yet been activated on devices for testing.
It is important to acknowledge that the results obtained from APK inspections often represent potential features still in development. Developers may explore numerous functionalities, but not every feature will necessarily reach the final public version of the app.
Earlier this month, Google also introduced the ability for users in Europe to measure body temperature with compatible Pixel phones. This feature complements the existing capability to measure object temperatures through the Pixel Thermometer app. Moreover, users can now connect their Fitbit devices to log their temperature readings seamlessly.
This functionality is currently accessible in various countries, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, and several others.
