Mintrocket’s Upcoming Zombie Apocalypse Game Set for Pre-Alpha Playtest

Mintrocket, the unsung hero behind the popular favorite "Dave the Diver," is prepping for another thrilling release scheduled for 2024. This new endeavor is a PvPvE Zombie Survival title called "Nakwon: Last Paradise" and is gearing up to hit the gaming world sooner than fans anticipated.

With inspiration seemingly drawn from "Escape from Tarkov," "Nakwon: Last Paradise" escorts gamers into an apocalyptic version of Seoul infested with zombies. Players are charged with venturing forth from their sanctuary to collect resources amidst the flesh-eating chaos. They must navigate threats posed not only by the undead AI but also by fellow players who wouldn't mind dispatching you to claim your hard-earned possessions.

Mintrocket isn't holding back any details and whetted fans' appetites by unveiling a 22-minute slice of gameplay footage showcasing what awaits players in "Nakwon." Alongside this preview, they announced an upcoming pre-alpha playtest, inviting eager participants to join starting at 5 pm PST on November 28th.

Despite an infatuation with the genre, as evidenced by the enjoyment of the vibrant "Dead Island 2," the reception to the aesthetic of "Nakwon" has been mixed. Critics called out the game's drab and monochromatic visual style, which seemed to lack the unique character that can make or break a zombie title, suggesting a step back to a bygone era in gaming.

Contrary to the indie vibes "Dave the Diver" exuded, Mintrocket is, in fact, an extension of Nexon, a gaming goliath in South Korea known for "MapleStory" and "Dungeon & Fighter." This connection has stirred up debates, particularly after "Dave the Diver" was considered for an indie game award — a nomination that raises eyebrows given Mintrocket's backing by a major player in the industry.

Questions are now being raised about what truly qualifies as an indie game, as the lines seem increasingly blurred. It appears that the gaming community may need to revisit the criteria for such distinctions, especially as subsidiaries of large corporations are being nominated for awards typically reserved for genuinely independent developers.

Fans interested in trying out "Nakwon: Last Paradise" can easily sign up for the closed alpha playtest, which is open for an unlimited number of participants. The testing period is scheduled to run until midnight PST on December 3rd.
