Saoirse Ronan Eyes Bond Villain Role, Prefers Unique Projects Over Marvel Superheroes

In the ever-changing landscape of modern cinema, numerous high-profile performers are transitioning to roles within the Marvel universe, especially following the monumental success of the Infinity Saga. However, one actor who does not envision herself wearing a superhero costume in the near future is Saoirse Ronan.

During a recent guest spot on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Ronan expressed her reservations about joining the Marvel franchise, stating her preference for the James Bond series instead. She elaborated on her perspective by mentioning her desire to engage in more substantial film projects. Ronan shared that while she cherishes her experiences in independent cinema, she is currently in a phase where knowing a film will actually reach an audience is a significant advantage.

Discussing her recent project, Blitz, Ronan emphasized the fulfillment that comes when hard work culminates in a release that garners attention and invites conversation. She acknowledged that numerous films may not achieve distribution, which can be a reflection of the industry’s unpredictability rather than the quality of the work involved.

Regarding the possibility of a future James Bond installment, Ronan mentioned her interest in portraying a villain, similar to the character played by Javier Bardem in Skyfall. Nonetheless, she also indicated that should the opportunity arise for her husband, Jack Lowden, to take on the lead role as the next Bond, she would gladly support his ascent over pursuing the villain role herself.
