Ubisoft Delays Assassin's Creed Shadows to February 2025 for Quality Enhancements

Recently, Ubisoft revealed that the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows has been postponed until early 2025, specifically set for February 14. This announcement came after the cancellation of a planned press event for the game, which raised some questions around its development status.

The company detailed that the development team requires extra time to enhance the game's quality before its eventual release. They expressed that this installment is a significant addition to the franchise, providing players with a rich narrative through the perspectives of two distinct protagonists. However, to ensure everything meets the expected standards, further polishing and refinement are necessary.

Unlike its recent predecessors in the series, Shadows will debut on Steam on the same day it launches on various other platforms, including PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, along with Amazon's gaming products Luna. Consequently, all prior pre-orders for the game will be canceled and refunded as Ubisoft transitions away from the conventional season pass approach.

In a related communication to investors, a leading figure from the Assassin's Creed team elaborated that the delay was informed by insights gained from the launch of Star Wars Outlaws. They acknowledged that while Shadows is complete in terms of features, the feedback from Outlaws prompted the decision to allocate more time for enhancement.

This initiative aims to fulfill the high aspirations set for this title, particularly concerning the dual protagonist gameplay experience, where Naoe and Yasuke will offer contrasting play styles. Though the latest game from Massive Entertainment received positive reviews, its commercial performance was below expectations, prompting a commitment to ongoing updates and improvements.
